Product Description:
The 12.S4.E31-348M is a three-phase servo controller from KEB and belongs to the S4 Combivert Servo Controllers series. It is intended to regulate the torque, speed, and position of synchronous or induction servomotors used in automated machinery such as packaging lines, conveyors, and material-handling stations. By modulating power delivered from an industrial supply, the unit interfaces with higher-level PLC hardware and provides the closed-loop control needed to synchronize mechanical axes within a process cell.
The drive connects to a three-phase power supply rated at 400 V AC, and the internal supply path is protected by a 20 A Class gG fuse that clears downstream faults. Under nominal load, it draws 18.2 A, while thermal losses are limited to 240 W, which affects enclosure cooling requirements. For short acceleration events, the inverter can deliver a peak phase current of 38 A for up to 600 ms, providing additional torque without requiring larger cabinet components. These electrical limits establish the permissible motor shaft power and guide cable cross-sectional area, circuit-breaker capacity, and heat management around the controller.
Continuous motor operation is supported by a rated output current of 16.5 A and an identical stall current, so steady-state and locked-rotor demands remain within the same thermal range. The analog command channel presents an input resistance of 40 kΩ to PLC voltage sources and digitizes those signals with 12-bit resolution for precise speed setpoints; complementary 10-bit outputs are available for diagnostic feedback. A fixed +10 V reference supplies external potentiometers, and the front panel carries a relay contact that switches 30 V DC at 1 A for interlocks. The enclosure has an ingress protection rating of IP20, and the controller weighs 3.6 kg. Forced ventilation inside the control cabinet removes the heat generated during operation.
