Product Description:
The 12.S4.E10-3470 is a digital servo controller produced by KEB within the S4 Combivert Servo Controllers series. Intended for cabinet mounting, the unit manages closed-loop speed and torque regulation of three-phase motors used in production lines, packaging equipment, and material-handling cells. By modulating the DC link at its output stage, the controller supplies pulse-width-modulated power that keeps motor response aligned with commands from a higher-level PLC. This supports repeatable motion on axes that need stable acceleration, controlled running speed, and quick correction when the load changes.
The electrical interface shows how the device is connected to plant power and how much current the supply path must support. It belongs to the 400 V class, accepts mains at 50 / 60 Hz, and is designed for a 3-phase supply. Under nominal loading, the input current reaches 18.2 A. Conductors of at least 2.5 mm² must be used, and an upstream fuse not exceeding 20 A protects the supply from excessive fault current. The controller delivers a rated and stall current of 16.5 A, while short bursts can rise to 38 A for up to 600 ms to provide extra torque during acceleration or brief load spikes. These short overload periods help the drive respond quickly without placing continuous thermal stress on the output section.
The power stage releases 240 W of heat, so the drive must be installed where cabinet airflow can remove this load and prevent heat from collecting around nearby components. The housing uses design E and has a protection rating of IP20, which provides finger-safe openings but no sealing against water. Operation is permitted up to 2000 m above sea level, and the controller can be used in atmospheres with relative humidity up to 95 % as long as condensation is avoided. These installation limits are important in enclosed panels where airflow and moisture control affect operating stability.
