KEB’s 09.F4.S8D-1220 belongs to the F4 Combivert Frequency Inverters series and is a variable-frequency drive for small AC motors used in conveyors, pumps, and positioning axes. By modulating the voltage and frequency applied to the motor, the inverter enables speed regulation, soft starting, and torque control suited to industrial automation cells, packaging equipment, and HVAC skids. This control method helps reduce mechanical shock during startup and allows the motor to match process demand more closely. The unit installs inside a control cabinet, where it connects to upstream protection devices and provides controlled output to downstream three-phase induction machines.
The inverter connects to a single-phase supply with 1 input phase and accepts line potentials from 180 ... 260 V. It synchronizes with 50 or 60 Hz utility grids within a ±2% tolerance and draws a nominal input current of 14 A. The design trips on over-current at 15 A to protect power components during abnormal load conditions. On the motor side, the device delivers a continuous 7 A of output current, which corresponds to 2.8 kVA and supports machines up to 1.5 kW. Output frequency can be varied between 0 ... 409.58 Hz, allowing both standard-speed and high-speed motors to run from the same hardware. This range also supports applications that require low-speed operation as well as extended-frequency motor control. Internal power transistors switch at 4 kHz, shaping a PWM waveform that the motor windings average into near-sinusoidal current.
The heat sink may reach 85 °C without jeopardizing semiconductor life, provided the ambient stays within a working range of -10 ... 45 °C. When inactive, the assembly tolerates storage temperatures from -25 °C to 70 °C. A line fuse up to 20 A coordinates with upstream breakers on the supply side. The housing meets IP20, so the drive requires installation in an enclosure free of conductive dust. Cabinet installation also helps prevent accidental contact with energized internal parts. Adequate enclosure airflow around the heat sink supports stable thermal performance during operation.
