Product Description:
The 07.17.670-930U spring-applied brake is produced by KEB under the Combistop Spring Brakes series. Mounted on the non-drive end of motors in industrial automation, it supplies fail-safe holding and emergency stopping when power is removed. It is sized for motors up to 5 HP. The device couples directly to NEMA frame size 182C or 184C motors, while a single-phase rectifier supplies power to the brake coil.
Its coil is designed for an input of 460 VAC; this line voltage energizes the electromagnet that releases the spring force. When powered with alternating current, the brake reaches full torque after 725 ms, while a separate DC feed reduces the engagement delay to 38 ms. Once seated, the unit supplies a static holding capacity of 45 ft-lb, which is sufficient to secure the driven shaft under rated load. The friction linings can absorb up to 11 × 10^3 J per stop, which is the thermal energy limit before component temperatures exceed acceptable thresholds. A rotor inertia of 3.9 × 10⁻³ kg·m², a 7.250-inch bolt circle, and an overall length of 7.000 inches keep the assembly balanced and compact, while an 8.500-inch pilot diameter centers it on the motor face.
For repetitive cycling, the allowable energy input is limited to 300 J/s; this limit prevents the friction surfaces from overheating during rapid stop sequences. After the coil is energized, the armature lifts in 140 ms, restoring free rotation for the next motion command. Power is transferred through a bore of 1.125 in, and the brake can withstand an external overhung load of 330 lb without exceeding bearing limits. The installation weight is 55 lb, which must be considered when supporting the motor and brake assembly. The brake is suitable for moderate-duty conveyors, packaging axes, and positioning tables that require predictable stopping and holding performance across varied duty cycles.
