Product Description:
The 04.38.100-0241 is a spring-applied, electromagnetically released brake manufactured by KEB and supplied under the Combistop Spring Brakes series. Integrated between a motor and a driven load, it secures the shaft whenever control power is lost. This action helps automated machines maintain their position during emergency stops or routine power-off states.
The brake engages rapidly with either supply type. Its 200 ms AC response limits run-down time when powered through an AC rectifier, while a DC supply shortens the engagement time to 50 ms. The drive electronics must provide approximately 30 W to hold the armature plate clear during normal motion. The initial clearance should be set close to the optimal air gap of 0.2 mm so that magnetic force develops predictably. The friction system supports continuous shaft speeds up to 3000 rpm; operation above this speed can generate more heat than the lining can tolerate. Three M6 clamping screws secure the brake to its mounting face, and all fasteners must meet or exceed strength class 8.8 so that housing deformation does not affect stopping performance.
A 1.5 mm counterbore in the hub centers the mating shaft. Positional tolerance is maintained by limiting face misalignment to 0.05 mm and eccentricity to 0.4 mm. Wear indicators show that service is required once lining loss reaches the 2.5 mm limit, before the lining reaches the 8.0 mm minimum thickness needed to protect the rivets. Installation uses three M6×55 screws tightened to the torque required for strength class 8.8 fasteners. Nominal operation relies on a DC supply, allowing connection to common 24 V control buses. For cyclic applications, the brake withstands up to 75 cycles per minute without overheating, supporting repeatable holding force during high-frequency indexing tasks.
