Product Description:

The 03.38.00N-0241 is a spring-applied, electromagnetically released brake produced by KEB within the Combistop Spring Brakes series. Installed between a motor and its driven load, the unit supplies static holding torque whenever control power is removed, preventing uncommanded motion in hoists, conveyors, or axis drives. When nominal DC voltage is applied to the coil, the brake disengages and allows the machine to accelerate freely. Once the voltage is cut, internal springs force the friction lining against the hub to secure the shaft.

The brake consumes 30 W during excitation, making the coil suitable for common PLC-controlled power supplies. When power is off, the armature remains in an engaged state, so the rated holding torque of 10 Nm is immediately available. Energizing the coil disengages the brake and permits shaft rotation. Reliable release depends on an optimal working air gap of 0.2 mm, and service is required as the gap approaches the 0.5 mm limit. The enclosure has an IP20 rating, which provides protection against finger contact but does not protect against liquids. The brake is intended exclusively for dry operation, eliminating the need for lubricant management around the friction surfaces.

The allowable mounting eccentricity is 0.4 mm, while the angular deviation between the motor shaft and hub must remain within 0.04 mm to avoid uneven lining contact. Brake linings may wear by up to 1.5 mm before replacement is required, and the remaining friction material must stay above the minimum thickness of 6.5 mm for safe torque generation. The permitted operating temperature ranges from 0 °C to 40 °C, so the assembly should not be used in ovens or freezing environments. A 1.5 mm counterbore on the hub simplifies axial alignment with standard keyed shafts. This feature also helps preserve the intended interface between the hub and the dry-running friction surfaces during installation.
