The Danfoss FC-280 is part of the VLT FC 280 Midi Drives series and has a protection class of IP20. This drive provides a 24 V output load of 100 mA, supports analog input resolution of 11 bits, and operates with a control scan interval of 1 ms. It allows a maximum shielded motor cable of 50 meters and can maintain full load operation up to 45 °C ambient temperature.
Internal Product Review
The FC-280 is a Danfoss VLT FC 280 midi drive with IP20 protection and a 1 ms control scan interval. Closed-loop speed accuracy of ±0.1% and system response time of ≤2 ms give the drive precise, responsive control in variable-speed applications. A true power factor of ≥0.9 and full-load operation up to 45 °C make the FC-280 a very capable choice for dependable industrial drive control.

Product Description:
The FC-280 is an AC variable frequency drive produced by Danfoss as part of the VLT FC 280 Midi Drives series. Designed for cabinet-mounted installation, the unit modulates three-phase mains voltage to provide precise speed and torque control of induction motors used in conveyors, pumps, and general machine automation. Integrated control functions and digital I/O allow the drive to replace external PLC tasks in compact systems while maintaining stable operation across a wide range of applications.
The enclosure is rated IP20, so it is intended for indoor panels with limited dust exposure. Continuous output is supported at ambient temperatures up to 45 °C, with derating permitted up to 55 °C when additional cooling air is available. The control board runs a processing loop every 1 ms, and the closed-loop regulator holds motor speed within ±0.1% of the setpoint. The displacement power factor remains above 0.98, reducing the reactive current drawn from the supply. Additional characteristics include an 11-bit analog input for precise reference scaling, a 10-bit analog output for process feedback, a 24 V auxiliary supply that can source 100 mA for sensors, and a maximum phase imbalance tolerance of 3% of the rated line voltage.
During discrete sequencing, the drive responds to control changes within 2 ms or less, enabling accurate positioning or rapid load adjustments without overshoot. Motor leads may run up to 50 m when shielded or 75 m when unshielded, allowing the inverter to be placed outside harsh areas while keeping electromagnetic interference under control. Open-loop speed error stays within ±0.5%, and the true power factor is at least 0.9, supporting efficient use of the power supply. The drive withstands vibration levels of 1.14 g, supporting reliable operation when it is mounted on moving machinery frames.
