The FC-101P5 variable frequency drive belongs to Danfoss's VLT HVAC Drive product group, specifically the FC 101 HVAC Basic Drives series. The unit converts fixed-frequency three-phase mains power into a modulated output that lets building automation systems regulate motor speed for fans, pumps, and blower wheels used in ventilation and chiller loops. When mounted in a control panel, it provides adjustable airflow or pressure without requiring mechanical dampers.
The drive accepts a 3 × 380–480 V AC supply with a ±10% tolerance at the standard line frequency of 50/60 Hz. It is rated for 5.5 kW of continuous motor power and can deliver up to 12.0 A of output current at 40 °C when the mains voltage is between 380 and 440 V. Peak feeder demand remains within 11.2 A, allowing the device to share a properly sized branch circuit with other HVAC loads. Speed control is achieved by adjusting the output frequency within a range of 0–400 Hz, so compatible induction motors can operate from standstill to above their nominal speed. Conversion efficiency reaches 98.4% at nominal load, which limits internal power loss to 104 W and reduces heat accumulation inside the enclosure. Two analog input channels accept proportional pressure or temperature reference signals. Four programmable digital inputs accommodate start, stop, and fire-mode signals from the building management system.
The housing carries an IP20 rating, so the drive is intended for installation inside a closed control panel that protects it from airborne moisture. The frame has a width of 100 mm, a depth of 206 mm, and a height of 255 mm, allowing side-by-side placement with contactors in compact cabinets. Its mass of 4.3 kg makes the unit easier to handle during panel installation and maintenance. Input and motor terminals accept conductors up to 4 mm² or 10 AWG. This conductor capacity accommodates common THHN building wire used in air-handling units and related HVAC equipment.
