The FC302-102-202 is an AC variable frequency drive manufactured by Danfoss within the VLT FC 302 Automation Drives series. It converts fixed-frequency three-phase mains power into a pulse-width-modulated output. This adjustable output allows PLCs to match induction motor speed and torque to real-time process demands in conveyors, pumps, and general machinery.
The analog reference channel can source or sink 0/4 to 20 mA, allowing instrumentation loops to command speed without additional converters. Six digital logic terminals accept 0–24 V DC signals, so standard PNP proximity switches can trigger start, jog, or preset selections. The inverter synthesizes an output frequency between 0–590 Hz, allowing vector-controlled motors to operate above their rated speed when the application requires it. Line supplies operating at 50/60 Hz ±5% are accepted without derating, supporting use with common industrial power systems. During acceleration, the control algorithms deliver 160% of rated torque for 60 seconds, providing the force needed to overcome static friction or release stalled loads before closed-loop regulation settles.
A displacement power factor greater than 0.98 lowers reactive current, while the true power factor remains at least 0.9 so upstream breakers carry a nearly active load. In flux mode, the carrier can modulate across a frequency range of 0–300 Hz. Current rises to its rated level in 1 ms, providing a rapid response to sudden speed reductions. For precision positioning, the VVC+ algorithm increases torque over 10 ms, smoothing transitions when the mechanical load changes. Control inputs tolerate up to 28 V DC, and phase imbalance must remain within 3.0% of the nominal line voltage to prevent excessive DC-link ripple. Pulse commands from encoders or PLC high-speed outputs are read across a range of 0–110 kHz. Output voltage tracks from 0% to 100% of the incoming bus voltage, which helps prevent excessive electrical stress on the motor insulation.
