The VLT 6022 is a variable-frequency HVAC drive produced by Danfoss within the VLT 6000 HVAC Drives series. It regulates three-phase induction motors that run air handlers, pumps, and condenser fans, allowing building automation systems to modulate airflow and water circulation instead of relying on fixed-speed starters. By altering output frequency and voltage, the drive matches motor torque to thermal demand, reduces inrush current during starts, and helps meet energy targets for commercial mechanical rooms.
This model delivers a continuous shaft output of 20 HP, which corresponds to 15 kW of mechanical power. It supports motors designed for 50/60 Hz operation, allowing the same unit to serve domestic or international applications. Protective circuitry can withstand up to 100,000 A of symmetrical short-circuit current, while reactive power is limited by a true power factor of 0.90. Acceleration torque is maintained at 100% of the rated value, and the controller provides 110% starting torque for one minute. It also supplies 110% overload torque during brief load spikes. One analog current input and two analog voltage inputs accept proportional control signals from static-pressure or temperature transmitters, allowing fan speed to track real-time demand.
The unit can be mounted at elevations up to 1,000 m without derating, permitting full output in most commercial rooftop or penthouse mechanical spaces. The drive provides 8 programmable digital inputs that allow a building management system to issue start, stop, fire-mode, or bypass commands. It also includes 3 high-speed pulse inputs that can receive signals from flow meters or tachometers. Breakaway torque peaks at 160% for half a second to free stalled impellers before the motor transitions to normal acceleration. The available analog references and digital channels support closed-loop HVAC sequencing based on pressure, temperature, flow, or speed signals.
