The 178B3300 is an AC variable-frequency drive manufactured by Danfoss for the VLT 6000 HVAC Drives series. It regulates the speed of three-phase induction motors used in fans, pumps, and air-handling units, allowing HVAC systems to adjust flow and pressure in response to changing demand. By modulating the output frequency and voltage supplied to the motor, the drive can reduce unnecessary energy consumption when full motor speed is not required. This variable-speed operation also helps building automation systems maintain stable temperature, humidity, and airflow without depending entirely on mechanical throttling devices such as dampers or control valves.
The mains terminals accept a line supply of 380–460 VAC, making the drive suitable for common industrial power networks operating at 50 or 60 Hz. Its electronics are installed in a compact IP54 housing that protects internal components from dust and water splashes commonly encountered in mechanical rooms and industrial facilities. Parameters can be entered and reviewed through the integrated LCP interface, which includes keypad controls and a backlit display for local operation. The drive is supplied with no RFI filter, so an external filter must be added when the installation requires additional suppression of radio-frequency interference. The power stage uses a standard unit configuration with an established arrangement for its terminals, control connections, and required cooling clearances.
The drive contains uncoated circuit boards, so it should be installed away from excessive humidity, condensation, corrosive gases, and other contaminants that could damage exposed electronic surfaces. The enclosure provides protection during normal operation, but proper mounting conditions and adequate ventilation remain important for maintaining reliable heat dissipation. Communication expansion slots are available, although the unit is supplied with no fieldbus card in the network interface position. Control signals can still be connected through the drive’s standard input and output terminals for integration with building automation equipment. Its motor-control functions support temperature-regulated airflow and hydronic circulation applications in which fan or pump speed must change as operating demand rises or falls.
