Product Description:
The 178B2544 is an HVAC variable-speed drive manufactured by Danfoss for the VLT 6000 HVAC Drives series. It adjusts the output frequency supplied to an induction motor, allowing a building-management system to regulate fan or pump speed according to real-time demand. This control method can reduce energy consumption while maintaining stable airflow or chilled-water flow in commercial and industrial facilities. The drive is intended for applications that benefit from continuous speed adjustment rather than simple across-the-line motor operation.
The drive accepts an input range of 525–600 V AC, allowing direct connection to compatible high-voltage feeders without an autotransformer. It operates from a three-phase supply, which balances line currents and supports smooth motor torque. Continuous output is rated at 7.5 kW/10 HP under nominal operating conditions. The unit carries an IP20 protection rating and uses a compact NEMA 1 enclosure, providing finger-safe shielding for installation in a clean indoor panel. Its compact cabinet uses standard hardware without a fieldbus card, RFI filter, or conformal coating. A front-mounted Local Control Panel provides direct access to operating parameters and drive controls. Because the unit does not have an RFI filter, conducted emissions should be evaluated as part of the complete cabinet installation.
The unit has a shipping mass of 14 kg and a net installed weight of 12 kg, so the mounting surface must support the drive and anticipated vibration loads. It can operate at ambient temperatures up to 40 °C and down to 0 °C without derating. Installation is permitted at elevations up to 1000 m before additional cooling or output derating may be required. The absence of conformal coating makes the drive best suited to clean, dry locations without corrosive gases, conductive dust, or persistent condensation. Adequate cabinet ventilation should be provided to remove heat generated during continuous motor operation. The enclosure should remain protected from direct water exposure and excessive airborne contamination because its ingress protection is intended for controlled indoor conditions.
