Product Description:
The 178B2538 is an AC drive manufactured by Danfoss for the VLT 6000 HVAC Drives series. It is a dedicated HVAC drive that modulates fan or pump speed so building management systems can match airflow or water flow to real-time demand, reducing energy consumption and mechanical wear in industrial and commercial facilities. By converting fixed-frequency mains power into variable-frequency output, the unit gives automation controllers precise control over induction motors used in air handlers, cooling towers, chilled-water systems, and process exhaust lines.
The input section accepts a three-phase supply of 525–600 VAC, allowing the drive to connect directly to compatible high-voltage North American or Canadian distribution systems without a step-down transformer. Continuous output is rated at 4.0 kW/5.0 HP, making the unit suitable for medium-sized centrifugal fans or secondary chilled-water pumps. The electronics are housed in a compact NEMA 1 enclosure, which protects against incidental contact with internal components while maintaining a relatively shallow installation profile. The drive includes a local control panel with start and stop keys, a graphical interface, and access to operating parameters. The absence of an internal RFI filter makes the drive appropriate for installations where conducted-emission requirements are addressed elsewhere in the electrical system.
The circuit boards are uncoated, so the drive is intended for clean, temperature-controlled locations rather than corrosive or persistently humid environments. The power stage is supplied as a standard unit with the baseline heat sinks and control terminals used for this VLT 6000 configuration. The fieldbus slot has no installed communication option, so external commands and status signals are handled through hardwired input and output connections. Local settings can also be entered through the control panel when direct access to the drive is required. Suitable mounting clearance should be maintained around the enclosure so normal heat dissipation is not restricted by adjacent equipment or wiring ducts.
