Product Description:
Danfoss developed the 178B2017 for the VLT 6000 HVAC Drives series. This compact inverter converts fixed-frequency mains power into a variable-frequency output that regulates three-phase induction motors used in building ventilation, chilled-water circulation, and other air-handling systems. By adjusting motor speed according to the load, the unit helps reduce energy consumption and acoustic output in centralized plant rooms. It belongs to the HVAC Drives product type, so its parameters and protective functions are suited to ventilation and pump duties in commercial and light-industrial facilities.
The drive accepts a three-phase supply of 380–460 VAC and delivers a continuous mechanical output of 1.1 kW / 1.5 HP. Its thermal design is suited to building-service cabinets, and the electronics are housed in a compact IP20 enclosure that fits low-depth panels while permitting convection cooling. For electromagnetic compatibility, an integrated Class A1 and B filter attenuates conducted emissions, reducing the need for external filtering in most installations. Operator interaction normally occurs through a remote building management system because this version is supplied without an LCP. The absence of local keys and a display leaves the front panel uncluttered, while control wiring connects through the terminal block.
The drive has an uncoated power board, so it should be installed in a clean, non-condensing switch room to reduce the risk of moisture tracking and contaminant buildup. The product is supplied as a standard unit, with feedback, relay, and analog input and output channels following the baseline VLT 6000 arrangement. It is intended for HVAC applications, including ventilation fans, circulation pumps, and other building-service loads that benefit from variable-speed control. The logic card includes no application-specific add-ons, so harmonic filters, bypass contactors, or additional control modules must be selected separately when required. Fieldbus connectivity remains available through a suitable PROFIBUS, BACnet, or LonWorks interface when network integration is needed.
