The 178B2002 variable frequency drive is manufactured by Danfoss and supplied through the VLT 6000 HVAC Drives series. The device modulates the speed of induction motors that run centrifugal fans, circulation pumps, and exhaust blowers in building automation systems. By converting fixed mains power into a variable output frequency, it allows the building control system to match air volume or water flow to real-time demand. This adjustable operation can reduce energy use in ventilation and chiller loops when full motor speed is not required.
Input power for the drive can be taken from a three-phase network rated at 380–460 VAC. Internally, the supply is rectified and inverted to produce a variable output with a continuous motor rating of 2.2 kW (3 HP), making the drive suitable for small to midsize air-moving equipment. The electronics are housed in a compact book-style IP20 enclosure, which limits mounting depth and supports unobstructed cabinet airflow while providing basic protection against accidental contact.
