The 178B1185 is a state-of-the-art frequency converter. It is designed with features that make it an optimal choice for high-power industrial applications. The converter has circuitry and processing capability that allow it to create AC output with a wide range of frequencies and voltages, which are necessary for motor control applications. In contrast to the output, the input to the converter from the AC has fixed voltage amplitude and frequencies that are between 50 to 60 Hertz. To create the variable output, the converter passes the input through two stages: the first rectifies AC to DC, and the second uses control algorithms for DC to AC conversion, allowing AC output with variable parameters. Danfoss VLT 6000 series converters utilize PWM control for controlled-inversion. The input side of the 178B1185 converter can connect to AC mains that supply voltages between 380 and 460 Volts.
With PWM control, the converter can produce output voltages that have amplitudes from 0 Volts to the input amplitude. Similarly, the output frequency can be set to any value between 0 and 1000 Hertz.
