Product Description:

The 178B0756 control drive is developed by Danfoss with a rated supply voltage of 380 to 460 V AC. It supports a typical shaft out power of 37 kW and it draws a maximum input current of 72 A. The unit provides 52.50 kVA of output power at 400 V and 51.80 kVA at 460 V. It supports an adjustable output frequency from 0 to 60 Hz, with a 96% efficiency at full load to ensure optimal energy usage.

The 178B0756 drive is designed with 8 configurable digital inputs, 2 analog inputs and 3 pulse inputs for precise speed feedback. Its analog inputs can handle signals from 0 to 10 V or 4 to 20 mA. There are also 2 relay outputs available for external monitoring or control and it supports RS485 communication with Modbus RTU, Johnson's Metasys N2 and Landis/Staefa Apogee FLN protocols. The unit comes housed in an IP 20/54 enclosure and it includes motor thermal protection, short-circuit protection as well as earth fault detection. It can cut off if the temperature exceeds predefined limits and its maximum cable length for motor connections is 150 m for screened cables. The unit’s recommended cable cross-section is 16 mm² for most configurations and it features 1.275 kW of power loss at full load. The PID controller integrated in the drive enables precise process control with two feedback signals.

The 178B0756 drive has automatic energy optimization and motor adaptation features that adjust motor power based on load variations to reducing energy consumption. It offers precise speed control with an open-loop accuracy of ±7.50 rpm at speeds below 1500 rpm and ±0.5% for speeds above this threshold. The 178B0756 refers to the product code VLT6052HT4C54STR3DLF10A00C0.

Frequently Asked Questions about 178B0756:

Q: How does the integrated PID controller in the 178B0756 drive improve process stability?

A: The on-board PID loop allows real-time correction of process deviations without external controllers. It minimizes overshoot and stabilizes speed or pressure by continuously adjusting output frequency.

Q: Why is having both 0–10 V and 4–20 mA analog inputs advantageous in the 178B0756?

A: The supporting of two signal types ensures compatibility with a wide range of sensors and legacy systems. Users can integrate either voltage or current-based transducers without converters, simplifying installation.

Q: What’s the significance of open-loop accuracy of ±0.5 % above 1500 rpm in the 178B0756 drive?

A: That accuracy ensures consistent speed control without feedback sensors, suitable for many industrial processes. It delivers precise operation within 0.5 %, reducing overshoot or drift at high speeds.

Q: How does motor thermal protection safeguard the drive?

A: It monitors estimated motor winding temperature and initiates shutdown before overheating occurs. This prevents thermal damage to both motor and drive components.

Q: Why is IP 54 an important enclosure rating?

A: The IP 54 ensures protection against dust ingress and water splashes—ideal for dusty or damp plant environments. It ensures the drive’s electronics remain clean and functional under challenging conditions.
