Product Description:
The 178B0232 is a variable frequency drive produced by Danfoss within the VLT 6000 HVAC Drives series. Designed for building automation, the unit converts fixed-frequency three-phase power into a controlled output that governs fan and pump motors used in ventilation, chilled-water, and heating loops. By adjusting motor speed in real time, it helps maintain setpoint temperature and pressure while minimizing energy consumption across an HVAC installation.
With a power rating of 1.1 kW (1.5 HP), the inverter can continuously supply small induction motors commonly used for zone supply fans or booster pumps. It accepts an input of 380–460 VAC, so an isolation transformer is usually unnecessary on standard 400 V plant power systems. The slim book-style IP20 housing allows side-by-side mounting inside shallow control cabinets while providing basic finger protection when the cabinet door is open. Integrated electromagnetic compatibility suppression is provided by the Class A1 and B filter, which limits conducted emissions to residential and light-industrial levels without external chokes. For supervisory integration, the drive includes a Profibus DP V1 interface that exchanges setpoints, status bits, and alarms with building management controllers at speeds up to 12 Mbit/s.
The drive is designed for HVAC duty cycles, so its voltage and power stage support the variable-torque profile typical of centrifugal loads. Parameters can be programmed directly through the front-mounted LCP keypad, eliminating the need for a separate setup tool when adjusting airflow setpoints or scheduling nighttime setbacks. The electronics are supplied as a standard unit with the baseline control configuration. The circuit boards have no conformal coating, so the installation area must remain within the approved humidity limits and be protected from condensation and corrosive airborne contaminants.
