The Danfoss 178B8584 is an AC variable frequency drive in the VLT 2800 Low Voltage Drives series. The unit modulates three-phase mains power to regulate induction motor speed in process equipment such as pumps, mixers, and conveyors. By converting a fixed-frequency supply into a controllable output, it supports continuous process automation in industrial control panels where installation space is limited.
The drive accepts an input of 380–480 V ±10% at 50/60 Hz from a three-phase network. It delivers a continuous output of 5.5 kW, which corresponds to 7.5 HP under rated operating conditions. The internal power stage is protected by an IP20 enclosure that prevents accidental finger contact, but the drive must be installed inside a closed cabinet. No application option card or integrated fieldbus interface is installed, so external control signals are connected through hardwired inputs and outputs. The drive is also supplied without an RFI filter. External electromagnetic compatibility equipment may therefore be required when the installation must comply with conducted emissions limits.
The Bookstyle enclosure supports side-by-side mounting while allowing cooling air to pass through the installation. The circuit boards have a protective coating that helps resist ambient humidity and airborne chemicals found in process areas. A standard brake chopper supports controlled motor deceleration by directing regenerated energy to a suitable braking resistor. Parameters and operating information are available through the front-mounted built-in display (SLCP), which provides local access to the drive settings. The designated application is Process, and the available controls support adjustment of V/f or sensorless vector settings for the connected motor. These control modes allow the drive to regulate common industrial loads while maintaining the compact mounting arrangement of the VLT 2800 series.
