The 178B1585 is a variable frequency drive manufactured by Danfoss within the VLT 2800 Low Voltage Drives series. As a low-voltage AC inverter, it converts fixed mains power into a pulse-width-modulated output that provides adjustable motor speed and torque. The unit is intended for process applications in which precise control of pumps, fans, or conveyors can reduce energy use and match production demand. Its adjustable output also supports controlled acceleration and deceleration, reducing mechanical stress on connected equipment during routine operation.
Its input section accepts a three-phase supply of 380–480 V ± 10% at 50/60 Hz, allowing direct connection to common industrial power systems. The drive is designed for three-phase motors and delivers up to 7.5 kW of continuous electrical power, corresponding to a mechanical shaft output of 10 HP. These power ratings indicate the supported motor capacity under the applicable operating conditions. The slim book-style housing minimizes cabinet width, allowing multiple drives to be mounted side by side on a backplate while preserving the required airflow. This narrow enclosure format is useful in control panels where horizontal mounting space is limited.
The control platform includes a built-in display for local parameter access and status monitoring. A Profibus interface transmits setpoints and feedback across the plant network at Profibus DP 12 MBaud, supporting communication with compatible automation controls. Electromagnetic emissions are limited by an integrated EN 55011 Class A1 filter. The enclosure has an IP20 protection rating, making it suitable for installation inside a closed control panel that prevents direct exposure to dust, moisture, and accidental contact. The drive is supplied in a standard configuration with a brake, allowing the braking circuit to manage energy produced during motor deceleration when used with the appropriate external components. No application option is installed, and the power board does not have a protective coating. The unit is therefore intended for indoor process areas where airborne contaminants and moisture are controlled.
