The 178B1584 is a variable frequency drive manufactured by Danfoss within the VLT 2800 Low Voltage Drives series. The unit converts fixed-frequency mains power into a modulated output so that process-line induction motors can be started, stopped, or operated at controlled speeds without mechanical throttling. By integrating the required control electronics and power stage into a compact frame, the drive supports energy-efficient automation of pumps, fans, and conveyors across food, chemical, and utility plants.
The drive provides a continuous output of 1.5 kW, which is equivalent to 2.0 HP under nominal load. The input section accepts 380–480 V ±10% at 50/60 Hz from a three-phase supply, allowing the drive to connect directly to common industrial feeders. A factory-installed brake transistor is included in the standard brake configuration, enabling controlled deceleration when motor inertia is high. Conducted-emission compliance is supported by an integrated RFI filter that meets EN 55011 Class A1 requirements. The assembly carries an IP20 protection rating, which guards internal circuitry against incidental contact and larger foreign objects. No additional application option cards are installed, so the base drive operates with its standard control functions and parameter set.
The slim book-style housing saves panel width and aligns with adjacent drives in high-density installations. Operators interact with the unit through a built-in display (SLCP) that presents operating values and supports local parameter adjustments. Network integration is provided by a PROFIBUS DP interface operating at 12 MBaud, enabling cyclic setpoint exchange with PLCs in distributed control environments.
