The 084B8522 programmable controller is produced by Danfoss within the MCX Programmable Controllers series. Designed for HVAC and refrigeration machinery, the unit coordinates compressor staging, fan management, and temperature regulation in automated plant equipment. It serves as the primary logic element, reading sensor inputs and driving discrete outputs so packaged units can maintain stable evaporator conditions without manual intervention. Because it handles these tasks autonomously, the device suits compact chillers and display-case controllers used throughout industrial and commercial facilities.
The controller connects directly to a single-phase mains supply of 230 V; this nominal rating eliminates the need for external transformers in most electrical panels. The internal electronics operate at either 50 or 60 Hz to accommodate regional power grids. Despite continuous operation, the logic core consumes only 2 VA, which minimizes heat inside enclosed cabinets. Field devices are actuated through 3 digital outputs, allowing separate control of components such as valves or fans. The controller also has 2 temperature sensor inputs, so suction and ambient readings can be processed simultaneously for tighter PID control.
In HVAC service, the unit can supervise up to one compressor and a single evaporator section, aligning its control strategy with small chillers and cold rooms. An integrated front display allows setpoints and alarms to be viewed locally without a handheld tool. The temperature channels recognize NTC-M2020, PTC 1000, and Pt 1000 probes, allowing mixed sensor installations in retrofit applications. Communication options extend its functionality. Optional Modbus support links the controller to common building management system networks, while LonWorks integration can also be selected when required.
