The MCD3045-T5-B21-CV4 is a three-phase soft starter. It is produced by Danfoss within the MCD Soft Starters series. By ramping motor voltage during startup, it limits inrush current and mechanical stress on connected machinery, making it suitable for conveyor, pump, and fan drives in automated plants.
The power section is rated for an AC53a operating current of 93 A, meaning it can repeatedly handle six-second starts followed by 23 seconds of run time without overheating. It accepts a line supply of 3 x 200–525 VAC, covering both 230 V and 480 V industrial mains. Internal electronics require only 17 VA of control supply power, conserving auxiliary capacity in the panel. The unit supports a short-circuit level of up to 100 kA. Coordination with an upstream fuse that has an I²t rating of 80,000 A²s maintains this fault rating. The enclosure carries an IP21 ingress rating, so it blocks contact by fingers and protects against vertically falling drops of water in ventilated cabinets. A relay contact is available for status or alarm signaling and can switch 5 A at 250 VAC. The logic start input draws 24 VDC at 8 mA for direct connection to a PLC.
The control interface is powered through a dedicated 400 VAC terminal, separating its supply connection from the main power terminals. Electromagnetic emissions meet Class A requirements, allowing installation in industrial areas without additional filtering. Surge immunity is supported by an impulse withstand rating of 2 kV, which protects the thyristor stack against switching transients. The enclosure has a width of 132 mm, a depth of 270 mm, and a height of 530 mm. These dimensions allow the starter to fit beside contactors and motor-protective circuit breakers on standard mounting plates while preserving space for wiring and ventilation.
