Product Description:
The 175G5541 soft starter is produced by Danfoss and is supplied within the MCD Soft Starters series. As a solid-state starter, it governs the initial voltage applied to three-phase induction motors, controlling the current rise so conveyors, pumps, or fans reach operating speed without disruptive torque. By performing this ramp function, the device provides an important interface between mains power and motion equipment in automated process plants.
The unit operates from three-phase power and provides a 24 V DC control output for field electronics; loop impedances up to 600 Ω can be connected without exceeding the analog driver limit. The mains section carries an insulation rating of 690 V AC and tolerates impulse overvoltages up to 4 kV. Silicon-controlled rectifiers are rated for a thermal let-through of 1,200,000 A²s, while the assembly maintains a fault withstand rating of 65 kA when coordinated with upstream protection. The IP00 construction requires the starter to be installed inside a ventilated panel. An external bypass contactor is required after full motor voltage is reached. A thermistor trip activates if the motor sensor resistance rises above 3.6 kΩ, adding overtemperature protection to the start sequence.
The auxiliary 24 V DC rail can supply up to 200 mA for indicator lamps, relays, or PLC inputs. The thermal design supports non-bypassed peak currents of 893 A when the starter is wired in delta and 595 A for an in-line installation, allowing selection according to the motor topology. Two programmable relay contacts are fitted, and each contact can switch 10 A at 250 V AC for run, fault, or alarm signaling. The starter belongs to the VLT Soft Starter MCD product group and weighs 45 kg. Its weight must be considered when selecting the panel structure and handling equipment.
