Internal Product Review
The 175G5537 is a Danfoss VLT Soft Starter MCD for three-phase power systems with a rated insulation voltage of 690 V AC. AC-53a in-line duty at 245 A and IEC prospective current of 85 kA give the soft starter strong capability for demanding motor starting applications. IP00 protection suits enclosed installations, and the 10 A at 250 V AC relay output is a valuable control feature.

Product Description:
The 175G5537 is a solid-state soft starter manufactured by Danfoss in the MCD Soft Starters series. It is designed for three-phase induction motors and ramps the voltage during startup and shutdown to reduce inrush current, mechanical shock, and electrical stress on connected equipment. Within an automated plant, the unit sits between the mains supply and the motor, providing controlled acceleration and deceleration for pumps, compressors, and conveyors. This operating method can reduce abrupt pressure changes in pumping systems and limit drivetrain stress in material-handling equipment.
The power section is rated for a maximum line voltage of 690 V AC, and its silicon devices can withstand impulse transients up to 4 kV. When wired in the standard in-line topology, the starter handles a motor full-load current of 245 A. In an inside-delta connection, the permissible current rises to 368 A. During normal operation, the motor’s nameplate current must remain below 255 A to maintain acceptable thermal conditions. The control relays provide 10 A switching at 250 V AC, while an analog output can drive 0–10 V instrumentation loads with an impedance of at least 600 Ω. The unit also provides a 24 V DC auxiliary supply at 200 mA and routes bypass conductors through terminals T1B, T2B, and T3B. Its IP00 protection rating requires installation inside an enclosure that provides suitable protection and adequate airflow.
The standard short-circuit rating at 600 V is 18 kA, while the UL three-cycle short-circuit rating reaches 65 kA. These ratings assist with the selection of compatible upstream breakers and fuses. A prospective IEC fault current of 85 kA establishes the available fault-current level for protection planning. The SCR has an I²t rating of 320,000 A²s, and the maximum fuse rating is 350 A, setting the applicable energy let-through limits during a fault. The assembly has a mass of 23.9 kg, which must be considered when selecting panel supports and mounting hardware. Relay outputs provide switching connections for external control circuits, and the analog interface supports connection to compatible monitoring equipment.
