Product Description:
The 175G5534 soft starter is built by Danfoss for the MCD Soft Starters series. Used in three-phase motor feeders, it ramps current and voltage to limit mechanical stress and utility supply disturbances when large induction motors start. Belonging to the VLT Soft Starter MCD product group, the unit is applied wherever across-the-line switching would exceed the available short-circuit capacity or overload couplings. It supports three-phase power connections and accepts a 24 V DC logic supply, allowing PLCs to manage start, stop, and diagnostic functions.
The control input draws 24 V DC at 8 mA, so panel designers can energize the starter directly from common auxiliary supplies without additional relays. An analog output with ±5% accuracy can operate meters or control devices and may be loaded up to 600 Ω; this is the minimum impedance required to keep the transmitter within its linear range. The internal electronics resist impulse voltages up to 4 kV between the power and control circuits, supporting installation in switchboards exposed to lightning or capacitor-bank switching. For motor sizing, the starter handles a maximum full-load current of 170 A when wired inline, while the AC-53b 3-30:570 profile permits 141 A of cyclic duty. Power is transferred through copper lugs that must be tightened to 38 Nm. The enclosure has an IP00 rating, so the starter requires installation inside a dedicated cabinet that provides adequate protection and cooling airflow.
When wired in an inside-delta configuration, the starter carries 212 A under the same AC-53b duty class, expanding the usable motor size without increasing the line conductor rating. The internal SCR stack withstands an I²t value of 320,000 A²s and supports a prospective system fault current of 65 kA, allowing upstream fuses to clear faults without damaging the semiconductor. A 24 V DC auxiliary output supplies up to 200 mA for sensor power. An onboard relay rated at 10 A at 250 V AC provides run status to external interlocks. Functional insulation is certified for 690 V AC, while the thermistor input trips the starter when motor resistance rises above 3.6 kΩ to prevent overheating.
