Product Description:

The 175G5532 is a three-phase soft starter assembled by Danfoss for the MCD Soft Starters series. It belongs to the VLT Soft Starter MCD product group and is designed to ramp induction motors smoothly, reducing mechanical stress and line disturbances during startup and stop sequences in conveyors, pumps, and compressors. Inside the panel, it uses controlled thyristor firing to regulate the rise in current as the motor accelerates. This approach reduces abrupt torque changes and limits the voltage disturbances that direct-on-line starting can introduce into the electrical distribution system.

The unit can deliver a rated current of 105 A, while the AC-53b duty profile 4-20:580 assigns 95 A for cyclic starts, allowing appropriate sizing of upstream fuses. The starter’s insulation system is rated at 690 V AC, and the power stage withstands an impulse voltage of 4 kV, providing protection against transient overvoltage. Its short-circuit capacity reaches 65 kA, supporting operation on industrial power systems with high prospective fault currents. The SCR package has an I²t withstand value of 125,000 A²s, which supports coordination with suitable short-circuit protection devices. These electrical ratings help protect the power stage when faults or switching surges occur in the plant distribution network.

A built-in 24 V DC auxiliary supply can source 200 mA with an accuracy of ±10% for external sensors. The analog output returns process feedback with an accuracy of ±5% into a 600 Ω load, allowing PLC inputs to monitor motor torque. A thermistor input trips when motor resistance exceeds 3.6 kΩ, providing thermal protection independently of current measurement. After the ramp period, an internal bypass closes to reduce heat losses, and the enclosure has an IP20 rating. Two form C relays are provided: the AC-15 contact switches 5 A at 250 V AC, while the resistive contact carries 10 A at 250 V AC. The starter weighs 4.5 kg, which reduces the load placed on the mounting backplate and supporting panel structure.
