Product Description:
The 175G5531 soft starter is produced by Danfoss within the MCD Soft Starters series. As a member of the VLT Soft Starter MCD product group, it is installed between the mains supply and a three-phase induction motor to limit inrush current, reduce torque shock, and provide controlled ramp-down. This function is useful on conveyors, pumps, and fan drives where gradual acceleration protects gear trains, reduces energy peaks, and extends mechanical life inside automated process equipment.
During active ramping, the controller carries a nominal current of 89 A, so it can be matched to motors with full-load currents near this value. Its maximum full-load in-line capacity is 100 A. Electrical insulation is verified for systems up to 690 V AC, while transient events are tolerated up to a 4 kV impulse withstand level. The analog monitoring channel delivers 4–20 mA feedback with an accuracy of ±5% into loads down to 600 Ω. A 24 V DC auxiliary source supplies 200 mA to external sensors, and the molded bypass is internal, removing the need for a separate contactor. A form-C relay rated at 10 A and 250 V AC provides status signaling.
For duty-cycle calculations, the in-line AC-53b 4-20 profile is limited to 74 A, whereas a delta connection under the same profile permits up to 112 A. The starter withstands a prospective short-circuit current of 65 kA when protected by the recommended upstream fusing. Enclosure protection is rated at IP20, so the unit must be mounted in a clean switchboard but needs no additional gasketing. Thermistor supervision is integrated, tripping at 3.6 kΩ and automatically resetting at 1.6 kΩ to guard against motor overheating. With an overall weight of 4.9 kg, the device is light enough for DIN rail or back-panel installation without reinforcement.
