Product Description:

The 175G5528 is a motor-control device built by Danfoss for the MCD Soft Starters series. It is installed between the mains supply and an induction motor to manage voltage during startup. By gradually increasing the applied voltage, the device limits mechanical stress on the motor, couplings, and connected equipment during acceleration. This controlled startup can extend system service life and reduce peak demand in industrial automation applications.

The controller handles a nominal line current of 53 A and is compatible with three-phase power networks. An in-line full-load current as low as 11 A allows the same unit to support smaller motors without requiring an oversized installation. The controller’s insulation is rated for 690 V AC, and its power electronics can withstand impulse transients up to 4 kV. When the connected supply can deliver up to 65 kA of fault current, coordination with upstream protection keeps the SCR assembly within its 15,000 A²s I²t limit. The digital control inputs accept a 24 V DC command, while the 24 V DC auxiliary output can supply 200 mA to external relays or sensors. The analog output supports a maximum load of 600 Ω to preserve signal integrity when connected to a PLC. The built-in relay can switch 10 A at 250 V AC for run, top-of-ramp, or fault signaling. The assembly has an IP20 protection rating and is intended for installation inside a suitable control cabinet.

A 60 A Class J fuse is recommended to match the device’s clearing capacity and SCR I²t limit. The housing has a depth of 213 mm, allowing cabinet clearance to be determined before installation. Its width is 150 mm, and its height is 295 mm. The unit weighs 4.5 kg, which limits the load placed on the cabinet mounting structure. Appropriate conductor sizing, grounding, ventilation, and upstream protection are required to maintain safe thermal operation during repetitive motor starts.
