Product Description:

The 175G5303 is a solid-state soft starter produced by Danfoss for the MCD Soft Starters series. It is installed ahead of three-phase induction motors to provide controlled voltage ramping, thereby minimizing mechanical stress on couplings, belts, and gears while reducing electrical disturbances on the supply network. By regulating both the start and stop profiles, the unit supports smoother process transitions in automated machinery and helps reduce abrupt torque changes during motor acceleration and deceleration. This operating method is useful in applications such as conveyors, pumps, compressors, and fans where sudden starts can cause belt slip, pressure shock, or unnecessary wear on connected equipment.

It accepts a line input of 200-440 VAC and operates from a control supply of 110/240 VAC or 440 VAC, allowing the same model to fit both low- and high-control-voltage panels. The maximum steady-state load is a rated current of 34 A, which corresponds to a motor output of 15 kW under typical conditions. An enclosure rating of IP20 means the terminals are finger-safe, but the unit still requires installation inside a cabinet for added protection against dust and moisture. The available control-supply options also make it easier to integrate the starter into new panels or retrofit assemblies that use different control voltages.

During energization, the starter limits the initial line surge to an 10 A inrush current, which helps reduce nuisance tripping of upstream protective devices. Internal thyristor losses are listed as 3 W/A of start heat dissipation, so enclosure airflow and thermal layout must account for the heat produced during repeated starts. If a fault occurs on the load side, the device can withstand a prospective short circuit of 5 kA when protected by the recommended fuses. Logic terminals accommodate start and stop commands up to 300 VAC, allowing many existing control relays to be used without interface changes. Because the unit is intended for three-phase power, it ramps all phases evenly during motor starting and stopping.
