Product Description:
The 175G5250 is a solid-state soft starter manufactured by Danfoss as part of the MCD Soft Starters series, specifically the MCD 202 line within the VLT Soft Starter MCD product group. Installed between the mains and an induction motor, the device applies a controlled voltage ramp that limits electrical stress and mechanical shock when production machinery accelerates or decelerates. By moderating torque during start and stop sequences, it supports smoother operation and lengthens the service life of gearboxes, belts, and pumped media in automated plants.
Electrically, the unit handles a maximum motor line current of 140 A and accepts supplies from 200-575 VAC. Within this window, it can drive loads up to 75 kW while operating on three-phase power. The control electronics are energized separately with 24 VAC/VDC, isolating the logic from the high-energy mains. Duty class AC53b 4-6:594 governs permissible start duration and cooling intervals, and an inrush current limit of 2 A protects upstream transformers and breakers. The starter is rated for 100,000 operations, and its 2.8 kΩ thermistor cutout input can halt the sequence if the connected motor approaches an unsafe temperature. Physical packaging follows frame size C, which keeps the housing within the mechanical envelope used for this series.
Interface and protection features are direct. The main housing carries a rating of IP00, so it must be mounted inside a dedicated panel. A status relay rated at 6 A is provided and is wired as normally open, so no auxiliary load is energized until the starter reaches the run state. The start command also uses a normally open contact, while the stop channel is wired as normally closed to fail safe on cable loss. These inputs support straightforward integration with PLC safety circuits and confirm that soft-start, coast-down, and locked-rotor trips are communicated to plant control.
