The 175G5248 is a soft starter produced by Danfoss within the MCD Soft Starters series. This device is installed between the mains supply and an induction motor to limit inrush current and mechanical stress during ramp-up and ramp-down. By managing voltage on three phases, it enables smoother acceleration, reduces torque peaks, and protects downstream equipment in pumping, conveying, and fan applications. Because voltage is applied in a controlled manner, connected couplings, belts, and pumps are subjected to less abrupt loading during start and stop.
The unit can handle motors up to 45 kW, so it fits medium-power industrial drives. Its main terminals accept line voltages from 200-575 VAC, allowing use on common 208 V, 400 V, and 480 V networks. The internal control board is energized by a separate 24 VAC/VDC source, which isolates logic circuits from mains disturbances. During startup, that control circuit draws an inrush of 2 A before settling to a lower steady current. EMC performance is graded as Class B, meaning the starter satisfies residential as well as light-industrial emission limits when properly installed.
