The 175G5235 soft starter is produced by Danfoss and is part of the MCD Soft Starters series in the 202 line. The device is installed between the line supply and a three-phase induction motor to reduce inrush current and mechanical stress during ramp-up in automated machinery. By regulating the initial voltage applied to the motor, the starter enables smoother acceleration, lower torque transients, and longer equipment life in conveyor drives, pumps, and fan systems.

The unit handles a motor full-load current of 60 A and operates on three-phase line voltages from 200–575 VAC, matching installations up to 30 kW at 50 or 60 Hz. During startup, its electronic current limit is preset to 350 % FLC, and an internal bypass contactor closes once rated speed is reached to minimize losses to 3 W per ampere. The control electronics accept either 110/240 VAC or 440 VAC and draw no more than 100 mA in steady operation, with a 10 A inrush. A built-in thermistor cutout circuit trips at 2.8 kΩ, and the motor protection conforms to trip class 10. The A-Frame housing mounts on a 30 mm DIN rail, and an internal bypass relay helps keep heat rise low once the ramp is finished.

Protective timers and diagnostic thresholds include an imbalance trip of 30 %, allowing the controller to disconnect if one supply leg deviates beyond that limit. In addition, the starter uses an excess start time of 10 s; if the motor has not reached nominal speed within this window, it will trip to prevent overheating. Mechanical wear is reduced by solid-state switching that provides an operational life of 1,000,000 ops, and the total enclosure mass is only 2.4 kg, which helps simplify panel installation. Continuous conduction losses stay within the 3 W/A figure, and the class 10 protection suits typical HVAC and material-handling duty cycles.
