Product Description:

The 175G5215 is a soft starter manufactured by Danfoss for the MCD Soft Starters series and classified in the 202 group. Installed ahead of a three-phase induction motor, it applies controlled phase-angle firing of its thyristors so the motor receives a gradual voltage rise and reduced inrush current during acceleration. It also provides controlled stopping, which helps limit mechanical shock to couplings, gearboxes, belts, and other driven equipment in pumps, fans, and material-handling machines. By ramping voltage instead of applying full line voltage instantly, the unit helps reduce startup stress on connected machinery.

The starter handles a motor full-load current of 85 A and is sized for applications up to 45 kW. Its main power terminals accept line voltages from 200 - 440 VAC, while the separate control circuit can be powered from 110/240 VAC or 440 VAC. This split-supply arrangement allows the control section to remain separate from the higher-power mains when the installation requires it. An enclosure rating of IP20 provides finger-safe protection when the unit is mounted inside a panel, although it still requires a clean enclosure environment. It is also compatible with grounded-delta systems and connects directly to three-phase power networks without additional adapters.

An internal bypass built with integral SCR technology shunts the conduction path once the motor reaches speed, which reduces heat losses during normal running. The unit uses frame size B and has a mass of 4.3 kg, which helps keep panel handling straightforward. Two configurable output relays, indicated by the value 2, can be used for run status, alarm signaling, or control of auxiliary equipment. Because the bypass is internal, the power circuit can be simplified without adding an external bypass contactor for normal operation.
