The 175G5014 soft starter is produced by Danfoss as part of the MCD Soft Starters series. Installed between the mains supply and a three-phase induction motor, it ramps the applied voltage and then bypasses the power section once full speed is reached. This controlled acceleration limits mechanical shock to couplings and gearboxes and reduces upstream current demand, making the device suitable for conveyor, pump, and fan duties in automated plants.
The starter’s enclosure carries a protection rating of IP21, so it resists contact by fingers and vertically falling water drops when installed inside a cabinet. It can be wired in an inside-delta configuration at up to 440 VAC, while a standard line connection accepts voltages from 200 VAC to 525 VAC. Continuous service is allowed at ambient temperatures from −5 °C to 60 °C without derating. When the internal bypass contactor is used, the unit supports a motor full-load current of 50 A; the bypass opens during ramping to limit thermal stress on the thyristors. Three relay outputs report operating states such as top of ramp, run, and fault. Four digital inputs permit remote start, stop, and parameter selection from a PLC.
The starter can withstand short-circuit currents up to 100 kA when protected by appropriate upstream fuses. In installations where the internal bypass is disabled, the current limit drops to 47 A at three times the motor’s full-load current, which suits applications that require continuous soft switching. Line-to-ground surge insulation is rated at 2 kV, helping the control electronics withstand switching transients. The housing measures 530 mm high, 270 mm deep, and 132 mm wide, allowing it to fit within standard motor control center columns. These dimensions provide room for control wiring around the enclosure and help installers organize power and signal conductors separately.
