Product Description:

The 175G5014 is a three-phase soft starter produced by Danfoss for the MCD Soft Starters series. In motor control centers it inserts solid-state thyristors between the mains and an induction motor, gradually raising the applied voltage so that mechanical shock and line inrush are reduced during acceleration. This function is widely used on pumps, compressors, and material-handling drives where controlled torque protects gearboxes and extends equipment life.

Electrically, the unit accepts supply lines up to 525 VAC and continues to function down to 200 VAC, giving it adequate margin for typical utility fluctuations. When an internal bypass contactor is engaged it can deliver a full-load start current of 50 A; without the bypass the silicon stack is rated for 47 A during identical 3.0 × FLC starts. An alternative inside-delta wiring scheme supports motors whose winding terminals see no more than 440 VAC, while a line-to-earth surge insulation distance of 2 kV shields sensitive control electronics from transient spikes.

The housing carries an IP21 degree of protection, so it must be mounted inside a switchboard yet only needs basic drip shielding. Thermal limits permit continuous service up to 60 °C and down to -5 °C, letting the starter occupy hot mechanical rooms as well as cool utility spaces. Fault clearing capability reaches 100 kA when coordinated with the specified upstream fuse class, meeting common industrial short-circuit ratings. Four digital inputs accept remote run, stop, and reset commands, while three form-C relay outputs report run, fault, or bypass status to higher-level PLCs. Physical dimensions—132 mm width, 270 mm depth, and 530 mm height—allow installation in narrow 600 mm cabinets alongside contactors and breakers.
