Product Description:

The 175G4001 Soft Starter is designed for controlled starting and stopping of three phase AC motors. It minimizes inrush currents and reduces torque surges. Its digital control system provides precise adjustments, simple installation and user friendly configuration for varied motor applications.

This 175G4001 soft starter delivers accurate acceleration and deceleration control to extend motor lifespan and improve operational efficiency. The control circuit of this model offers wide voltage compatibility. It operates within a control voltage range of 24 to 230 V AC/DC for 230 V applications and from 24 to 480 V AC/DC for 400 – 600 V applications. The maximum pick up voltage is 20.4 V AC/DC while the minimum drop-out voltage is 5 V AC/DC. The maximum control current required with no operation is 1 mA and the unit allows a control current of 15 mA with a maximum power consumption of 2 VA. The device ensures a maximum response time of 70 ms. The ramp-up and ramp-down times are fully adjustable within the range of 0 to 10 seconds that allows flexibility for smooth motor acceleration and deceleration. The initial torque can be set from 0 to 85 % of nominal torque with an optional kick start feature for demanding load conditions. The unit supports continuous duty with a maximum power dissipation of 4 W and the same dissipation applies under intermittent duty conditions.

The 175G4001 soft starter from Danfoss integrates precision control with dependable electrical and thermal characteristics. In terms of insulation, the rated insulation voltage is 660 V AC. The unit withstands rated impulse voltages up to 4 kV that provides reliable operation under transient overvoltage's. It belongs to installation category III that is suitable for fixed installations subject to high energy and transient conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions about 175G4001:

Q: How precise are the ramp‐up and ramp‐down timing adjustments?

A: Ramp times are adjustable via rotary switches, ranging from 0.4 to 10 s, enabling granular control.

Q: What is the typical motor size supported by the Danfoss 175G4001 Soft Starter in a 400 V system?

A: The Danfoss 175G4001 Soft Starter supports 3-phase induction motors with a full load current (FLC) rating of up to 3 A. For a standard 400 V system, this typically corresponds to motors in the 0.55 to 1.1 kW (0.75 to 1.5 HP) range, depending on efficiency and load profile.

Q: What types of loads and applications are best suited for the 175G4001 Soft Starter?

A: The Danfoss 175G4001 is optimized for applications where inrush current limitation and controlled acceleration are critical. Ideal applications include pumps, blowers, conveyors, mixers, agitators, small Compressors and chillers.

Q: What happens if the control voltage to the 175G4001 drops below the minimum threshold during operation?

A: The device requires a pickup voltage of at least 20.4 V AC/DC to activate. If voltage falls below the drop-out threshold (5 V AC/DC), the soft starter deactivates the control circuit, ensuring safe shutdown. It also has a response time of 70 ms, providing timely action to voltage anomalies.

Q: How does the 175G4001 Soft Starter manage heat dissipation under continuous use?

A: The unit is rated for continuous duty operation with a maximum power dissipation of just 4 W, which remains the same under intermittent duty. Passive heat dissipation (via heat sink) is sufficient; no fans are required. This ensures reliable operation in sealed enclosures or low-maintenance panels.
