Within industrial automation, it regulates the voltage ramp applied to induction motors to cut inrush current and mechanical stress during startup and stop. By installing it ahead of the motor contactor, the unit provides smoother acceleration, lower peak demand, and reduced coupling wear on conveyors, pumps, fans, and other asynchronous drives. This controlled ramp also helps limit belt shock, pressure surges, and abrupt torque changes in connected equipment. It is commonly used where direct-on-line starting would create objectionable current peaks or harsh loading on shafts, couplings, and driven machinery. The unit fits inside motor control centers that require compact, digitally adjustable soft-start functionality without additional relays.

This model features an internal bypass contactor, so after ramp-up the current flows through fixed contacts and trims heat in the SCR stack. When fed from three-phase power, the soft starter’s thermal mass of 15.5 kg helps absorb switching heat during frequent cycles. Panel layouts can reserve 59.4 L of space around the unit. This helps maintain airflow, conductor clearance, and practical routing space inside the enclosure. It also leaves room for service access around line and load terminals. The arrangement supports installation in motor control cabinets where controlled acceleration is needed without separate heat sinks.
