The 136G7343 soft starter is manufactured by Danfoss within the MCD Soft Starters series. It is designed to manage the ramp-up and ramp-down of three-phase induction motors, limiting electrical and mechanical stress during startup and stop sequences in automated conveyors, pumps, and compressors. By controlling line voltage through thyristor firing angles, the unit reduces inrush current, helping downstream protection devices remain within their thermal limits and extending motor life.
The device is rated for up to 323 A of continuous motor current, so it can accommodate high-duty machines that draw substantial steady-state amperage. Its control electronics accept a 24 VAC/VDC supply, simplifying integration with low-voltage PLC I/O cards. An impulse withstand capability of 6 kV protects the power stack against overvoltage transients common on industrial busbars. Because the power terminals carry mains potential and are open to the panel interior, the unit has an IP00 protection rating, so it must be mounted inside a suitable enclosure to prevent accidental contact. When connected on a 460 V network, the starter can energize motors up to 200 HP, and it is intended for three-phase power systems, allowing balanced acceleration without torque pulsations.
During normal operation, the unit will pass up to 261 A of full-load current after the ramp period, while an internal bypass contactor closes to remove the thyristors from the circuit and minimize heat losses. A Form-C relay is available for status signaling and can switch loads up to 10 A @ 250 VAC, providing a direct interface to contactors or alarm lamps. The insulation system is tested to 690 VAC to earth, matching common low-voltage insulation classes. Control feedback signals may be wired to the analog input, which supports sensors as low as 600 Ω.
