The 132H8447 is a soft starter produced by Danfoss within the MCD Soft Starters series. It is designed for three-phase power installations where controlled acceleration extends motor life. Installed between the mains supply and an induction motor, it ramps voltage smoothly during startup and deceleration, cutting mechanical shock and limiting line disturbances in automated machinery and pumping stations. By managing current electronically rather than through electromechanical contactors, it helps protect motors, gearboxes, and driven equipment while also reducing flicker on the distribution network. This operating method also helps reduce sudden torque changes that can stress couplings, belts, and piping.

The primary power path accepts three-phase mains up to 480 V AC, and the silicon-controlled rectifier stack is rated for a continuous line current of 124 A in heavy-duty service. That capability lets the unit start motors with a full-load requirement of up to 100 HP without exceeding its temperature limits. A separate control circuit at 120 VAC drives the gate electronics and status relays, keeping the control section isolated from the high-energy path. After the start sequence, an Internal Bypass Contactor closes to reduce losses, so the soft starter dissipates minimal heat during steady-state running. The bypass arrangement also helps limit heat buildup inside the enclosure during normal motor operation.

The starter is supplied as an enclosed assembly with a 3R enclosure rating, so it can be mounted outdoors where falling rain is expected but direct hose-down is not permitted. The sheet-steel cabinet encloses line fuses, control terminals, and the power electronics, bringing total shipping mass to 98 kg and a net installed weight of 77 kg. With cabinet dimensions that displace 371.082 L of volume, the unit requires adequate space in standard motor control centers. Its enclosed layout is suitable for installations that need a factory-mounted housing instead of a separate external cabinet.
