Product Description:
The 132H8445 is a solid-state soft starter produced by Danfoss within the MCD Soft Starters series. Installed between the mains and an induction motor, the device gradually ramps voltage and current during startup, limiting both electrical inrush and mechanical shock. This controlled acceleration lowers wear on couplings, belts, and driven machinery, making the unit a common choice for pumps, compressors, and material-handling conveyors in automated facilities. The controlled ramp also helps reduce belt slip and pressure surges in equipment that does not tolerate abrupt motor engagement.
The starter is engineered for line supplies up to 480 V AC and carries a continuous current capability of 124 A, allowing it to energize motors up to 100 HP without external contactors. An integrated internal bypass contactor closes after the ramp phase to reduce thermal dissipation inside the semiconductor stack and improve operating efficiency. Control electronics are energized from a separate 120 VAC source, which isolates logic power from the main feeder and simplifies panel design. The power section is configured for three-phase power, providing symmetrical soft-start and soft-stop functions across all three motor leads. In deceleration mode, the soft-stop function can reduce abrupt stopping forces on connected loads.
For plant environments that contain oil mist, fibrous dust, or light water spray, the unit is supplied in an enclosed chassis rated NEMA 12. This gasketed steel housing blocks airborne contaminants and permits wall or panel mounting without an auxiliary cabinet. The assembly is classified for heavy-duty service, meaning its thyristor and bypass components tolerate elevated cycle counts and higher overload percentages than standard-duty models. The steel enclosure is intended for indoor industrial areas where airborne debris can shorten component life in open assemblies.
