The 132H8443 soft starter is manufactured by Danfoss and supplied within the MCD Soft Starters series. It is an electronic motor controller that ramps voltage and current during startup so centrifugal pumps, compressors, and conveyors can accelerate without high mechanical shock. This softer starting profile helps reduce electrical stress at the moment the motor is energized. It is suitable for panel-mounted motor control where across-the-line starting would place higher stress on shafts, couplings, belts, and the electrical supply. This helps connected equipment reach operating speed in a more controlled manner.

The power stage is rated for a continuous line current of 124 A, meaning the silicon-controlled rectifiers and internal conductors can carry that RMS value without exceeding thermal limits. Mains connection is specified for 480 V AC three-phase networks, so the starter can be wired directly to standard low-voltage distribution systems. Logic and relay functions are energized by a separate 120 VAC control supply, which isolates the command circuit from the power path. A weather-resistant NEMA 3R enclosure protects the electronics against falling rain and external ice formation, allowing outdoor cabinet installation. Because the frame is factory wired, only the incoming supply and motor leads need to be connected, which simplifies panel wiring and keeps installation more straightforward.

During run conditions, an internal bypass contactor closes to divert current around the SCR stack, eliminating conduction losses and limiting heat rise in the enclosed chassis. The starter carries a standard-duty rating, which allows three starts per hour at nominal load without additional cooling equipment. When paired with induction motors up to 100 HP, the device supplies controlled acceleration on three-phase power systems. This arrangement reduces heat in the power section during normal operation and supports routine use in manufacturing and HVAC equipment.
