The 132H8442 soft starter from Danfoss belongs to the MCD Soft Starters series. Designed for installation ahead of an AC induction motor, it applies controlled voltage ramps that cut mechanical shock and reduce line disturbances during motor startup and stopping. This function is valuable in automated pump, fan, and conveyor stations where smooth acceleration protects couplings, piping, and drive components. An enclosed build lets the unit mount directly on plant walls without additional cabinets.

The soft starter handles a three-phase supply of 480 VAC and is rated for continuous motor current up to 361 A, meeting the standard-duty classification. When partnered with a motor that draws that current, it can deliver up to 300 HP at full voltage. An internal bypass contactor transfers the load after ramp-up, limiting heat loss inside the starter and improving efficiency. The enclosure is classified as NEMA 12, so the electronics remain protected against circulating dust and splashing liquids. For process feedback, the analog output holds an accuracy of ±5% and can drive measurement devices with impedance as low as 600 Ω. The main power poles remain normally open until a start command is issued, and all functions are coordinated across the three input phases.

Control circuits inside the starter operate on 120 VAC, isolating command wiring from the higher-energy main terminals. The power path is designed for insulation stresses up to 690 VAC in steady-state service and can withstand surge events of 6 kV without flashover, supporting distribution systems that experience switching transients. For status signaling or interlocking, a form-C relay is provided with a rating of 10 A @ 250 VAC resistive, allowing direct actuation of contactor coils or indicator lamps.
