The 132H8440 is a solid-state motor soft starter manufactured by Danfoss as part of the MCD Soft Starters series. The unit is intended to limit inrush current and provide smooth voltage ramp-up for squirrel-cage induction motors during both start and coast-down. By reducing mechanical shock at couplings and limiting electrical transients on the supply bus, it helps protect downstream equipment and improve power quality in automated production lines.

For power circuits fed at 480 VAC, the starter supports motors rated up to 100 HP while carrying a continuous line current of 124 A. This capacity covers many conveyor drives, centrifugal pumps, and refrigeration compressors. After the programmed acceleration time, an internal bypass contactor engages; the silicon devices are then isolated, so heat dissipation drops and enclosure ventilation requirements are simplified. Protection against airborne oil and non-conductive dust is provided by the NEMA 12 housing, allowing wall mounting in production areas rather than climate-controlled motor control rooms. The microprocessor automatically calculates ramp profiles in relation to motor locked-rotor data and monitors phase symmetry to trip on excessive imbalance or loss of phase. Control electronics draw just 50 VA from a 120 VAC auxiliary supply, so the starter can be wired to common control transformers already present in most panels.
