The 132H2269 soft starter is produced by Danfoss within the MCD Soft Starters series. It is installed between the line supply and an induction motor to limit inrush current and reduce mechanical shock during startup, which helps protect couplings, belts, and other driven components. By controlling voltage during acceleration, it can also reduce voltage dip on the plant power system when large motors start under load. This makes starting more controlled on conveyors, pumps, fans, and similar motor-driven equipment. The unit uses an enclosed housing, so live parts are isolated from touch and the assembly is better suited for protected industrial mounting.
The starter supports motors rated up to 200 HP and operates from a 480 V AC line supply. Its power section is rated for 240 A of continuous line current, so upstream protection and conductors must be selected for that load. The control circuit uses 120 VAC from a separate source, allowing the logic section to remain independent of the main power path. Because it is built for three-phase power, the SCRs regulate each phase evenly during acceleration.
