Product Description:
The 132H2258 soft starter is produced by Danfoss for the MCD Soft Starters series. In industrial automation, it serves as a solid-state motor controller that ramps voltage during startup and deceleration, lowering mechanical shock and electrical inrush on large AC motors. The device is installed between the mains and the motor in panels or motor control centers, where its adjustable profiles support pumping, conveying, or compression equipment. By controlling acceleration and stopping behavior more smoothly than electromechanical starters, it helps reduce belt slip, hydraulic shock, and abrupt load changes.
An integral feature is the internal bypass contactor; once the preset ramp is finished, this contactor carries the load current so the power semiconductors no longer generate as much heat. Control logic and signaling are powered from a 120 VAC auxiliary supply, separating the low-voltage control section from the higher-energy main circuit. The main path is rated for 240 A, which is the maximum continuous motor current under nominal ambient conditions. A standard-duty classification suits typical light- to moderate-starting-torque applications rather than heavy-overload conveyors or crushers. The unit is supplied as an enclosed unit, so it can be installed without a separate starter cabinet.
The incoming feeder can supply up to 480 V AC, matching common three-phase distribution levels in North American facilities, and the starter can control motors up to 200 HP at that voltage. It is designed exclusively for three-phase power, so single-phase sources are outside its operating scope. A weather-resistant NEMA 3R housing permits outdoor wall mounting where falling rain or sleet may be present, provided the interior temperature remains within the allowed operating range. This arrangement is well suited to medium-power fan, pump, and compressor motors that benefit from controlled acceleration and reduced inrush current.
