Product Description:
The 132H2247 soft starter is produced by Danfoss within the MCD Soft Starters series. Designed for three-phase induction motors, the unit limits inrush current and reduces ramp-down torque so conveyors, pumps, and fans accelerate smoothly. That behavior helps reduce belt slip and fluid shock in systems that do not tolerate sudden starts. By modulating line voltage through a thyristor stack before connecting the motor to full mains, it simplifies panels compared with star-delta contactor sets. It also eases electrical stress on the supply during motor energization.
The main line can carry up to 343 A of motor current, while the control electronics use a 24 VAC/VDC source on terminals A8 and A9. An insulation voltage of 690 V AC sets the allowable line-to-ground potential, and surge events are tolerated up to 6 kV impulse. This control supply is separate from the motor line connection, which allows the command circuit to remain active during shutdown states. The device is built on frame size 2, so its mounting pattern follows the second mechanical envelope in the series. The open chassis has an IP00 ingress rating, so it must be installed inside an enclosure. Its main output contactor is normally open, and the starter is intended for three-phase power networks with balanced loading.
A built-in analog monitor can drive loads down to 600 Ω for process feedback to external PLC inputs. This monitor provides a simple way to pass operating information to supervisory controls without extra transducers. Status and fault states are reported through a relay able to switch 10 A @ 250 V AC, allowing direct alarm interfacing with control circuits. Motor leads are secured under lugs that must be tightened to 66 Nm to reduce resistive heating during starts. The unit is classified as Non-Bypassed, which means its thyristors remain in circuit throughout the run period. Because of this arrangement, enclosure ventilation must remove the additional heat generated during operation.
