Product Description:
The 132H2246 soft starter is produced by Danfoss as part of the MCD Soft Starters series. Belonging to the VLT Soft Starter MCD product group, the unit is designed to manage three-phase power applications by ramping motor voltage smoothly during start and stop sequences. This controlled approach reduces mechanical stress, mitigates supply disturbances, and supports safer integration of induction motors in automated plant equipment.
Electrically, the device accepts a control input of 24 VAC/VDC that powers its trigger and monitoring circuits, and it can deliver up to 275 A of main-line current when wired in the standard in-line configuration. Its rated insulation level is 690 V AC, which is the maximum system voltage that the internal power semiconductors and creepage distances can safely withstand. Surge events are handled with an impulse withstand capacity of 6 kV, while the open-frame IP00 construction requires installation inside an enclosed panel. The model is non-bypassed, and external bypass contactors are not supported, so the starter remains in circuit for the full duty cycle. Net mass reaches 15.5 kg and the shipping mass is 16.3 kg, which affects panel rail sizing and handling.
For coordination with overload relays, several current profiles are listed. When assessed under the IEC Ac53a 3-0-10:50-6 duty, the in-line rating is 341 A, and in an inside-delta connection the starter can pass 512 A because only two phases carry full line current at the motor terminals. NEMA utilization categories set thermal limits of 185 A for heavy duty and 233 A for normal duty. Continuous operation produces heat at 4.5 W/A, which is used to calculate enclosure ventilation. The unit fits into frame size 2, so its physical outline and terminal spacing match other size-2 accessories in the series.
