The 132H2241 is a solid-state motor soft starter produced by Danfoss in the MCD Soft Starters series. Installed between the branch circuit protector and the motor terminals, it uses phase-angle control to limit inrush current and gradually raise motor voltage during startup. This approach minimizes mechanical shock, reduces transient torque, and prevents voltage dips on three-phase distribution networks. The unit is used in conveying, pumping, and fan systems where controlled acceleration helps extend equipment life.

Its continuous line capacity is 343 A, matching induction machines that fall within the NEMA 480 V normal-duty 250 hp and heavy-duty 200 hp charts. The starter is supplied without an internal bypass, a non-bypassed topology that keeps the SCRs in circuit for the full run profile. An analog output can drive loads down to 600 Ω, providing proportional feedback to a PLC. Momentary overvoltage events are resisted by an impulse withstand rating of 6 kV, and the open-style chassis has an IP00 rating for mounting inside a protected cabinet. Control electronics accept a discrete start command at 24 V DC, 8 mA, while thermistor channels supervise motor temperature with trip and reset thresholds of more than 3.6 kΩ and less than 1.6 kΩ, respectively.

For applications requiring shorter ramp times, the IEC AC-53a 3.0-10:50-6 duty table allows up to 404 A for ten starts per hour. The power sections are insulated for 690 V AC, giving headroom when the unit is installed on 600 V class feeders. Auxiliary control is handled by a form-C relay rated at 10 A @ 250 V AC, enabling direct wiring to contactors or alarm circuits in the control system. The unit uses Frame Size 2 for its mechanical layout. Three-phase power terminals remain energized throughout operation because the bypass is external, so cabinet ventilation must dissipate the heat generated by the SCR stack.
