The 132H2231 is a solid-state motor starter produced by Danfoss within the MCD Soft Starters series. It is applied at the front end of an AC induction motor circuit to moderate the voltage ramp during startup and reduce mechanical stress on driven equipment. The device is intended for controlled motor acceleration in applications where abrupt starting torque can strain couplings, belts, and pump components. By replacing across-the-line switching with controlled SCR conduction, the unit helps limit inrush current, aligns acceleration with process needs, and integrates smoothly into automated conveyor, pump, and fan panels.

The starter handles a continuous line current of 215 A, so it is suited for medium-power motors that would otherwise exceed standard contactor ratings. Command and monitoring circuits are energized by a 24 VAC/VDC control supply, allowing the same low-voltage rails used by relays and PLC I/O to supervise the device without a separate high-control supply. Because the design is non-bypassed, the thyristors remain in the power path for the entire run cycle, which allows soft-stop operation but requires attention to thermal dissipation during continuous use. Its compact Frame Size 2 simplifies panel layout, and the open-style IP00 protection rating means the unit must be installed inside an enclosure that guards against accidental contact.

Mechanical integration is guided by an overall height of 523 mm, a width of 216 mm, and a depth of 245 mm. These dimensions let it share vertical space with molded-case breakers in standard switchboards while still leaving clearance for line and load busbars as well as cable bends. The starter is built for three-phase power, so wiring requires three line conductors plus a neutral for the control circuit if a single-supply transformer is used. The enclosure should provide enough clearance around the heat sink for airflow during operation, especially where adjacent devices are mounted closely above or below the unit.
