The 132H2230 soft starter is produced by Danfoss as part of the MCD Soft Starters series. It is installed between the supply and an induction motor to manage voltage ramp-up and ramp-down, so it lowers mechanical shock and line disturbances during start and stop sequences in industrial automation lines. By governing current on three-phase power circuits, the unit protects motors, driven equipment, and upstream cabling from high inrush currents while occupying the compact footprint associated with Frame size 2 devices.

Its logic section operates on 24 VAC/VDC control voltage, separating low-level commands from the mains. The power section carries a nominal current of 160 A, which is the maximum continuous motor line current the starter can modulate. Rated insulation is 690 VAC, aligning the product with common low-voltage distribution classes, and an impulse-withstand capability of 6 kV helps it tolerate switching surges. The starter ships with an IP00 open-chassis enclosure, so it must be mounted inside a panel for touch-safe operation. Because there is no internal bypass, an external contactor must short the thyristors once full motor speed is reached. The main contactor inside the control chain is normally open, and the design follows Motor Starter Form 1 topology. It works on three-phase power networks.

The analog output can drive loop impedances up to 600 Ω, allowing proportional speed or current feedback to external PLC analog inputs. Relay A is a changeover contact, and the output block can switch up to 10 A @ 250 VAC for fan starters, fault annunciation, or run indication. Coordination with upstream protection uses HRC fuse class Type 1, while the semiconductor path meets Type 2 requirements to limit let-through energy and permit rapid restart after a short-circuit event.
